Three-year-old Artem arrived in Moskva from a children's home in Smolenskaya oblast in September to undergo medical examinations. After a head injury, the little boy hardly speaks or walks — the staff at the children's home asked the foundation for help to determine whether the boy has potential.
Artemka is a withdrawn child; he is selective about which adults he is willing to trust. But once a connection is established, he becomes more sociable, repeats simple words, and loves to play pat-a-cake.
"Artemka has a favorite word — 'Dya?'" says the boy's nanny. "I kiss his hand many times and say, 'Oh, how tasty, oh, how sweet!' He smiles and reaches out his hand for me to continue."
There are many children like Artem under the foundation's care; they are all different and each needs their own approach. Every child should have a reliable adult by their side, someone they are not afraid of.
The head nanny knows all the children and all the nannies, their personalities and special needs. She selects the right nanny for each child, the one they will 'match' with — after all, treatment can last for months or even years, and it is very important that there is a trusted adult nearby. The head nanny also helps the nannies when they face difficulties and handles all organizational matters.
We are raising funds to pay for the head nanny's work, so that every child has a reliable and caring adult by their side.
