Nine-year-old Abzal from Uzbekistan has been battling a malignant tumor for two years.
The first symptoms of the disease were discovered when the boy was 7 years old. He complained of pain in his lower leg, but because he played professional tennis, his parents did not suspect a problem. When Abzal started limping, his parents went to the doctor.
After the first examinations the boy was diagnosed with a benign neoplasm, but his mother insisted on additional tests. Already then she suspected that her son might have cancer.
Four laboratories examined the tissue sample and independently diagnosed Ewing's sarcoma. This type of sarcoma is one of the most aggressive and, like all sarcomas, grows quickly.
Treatment was started immediately. Abzal underwent several courses of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, but it had no effect. The pain made him unable and unwilling to play and move.
The doctors at Blokhin Cancer Research Center prescribed two courses of chemotherapy, after which he will undergo surgery to remove the sarcoma and implant an endoprosthesis. The family had a light of hope.
Unfortunately, Abzal can not play tennis anymore, but he likes to read and play the drums, like his older brother. Before his illness, Abzal was an excellent student at school and hopes to quickly make up the gaps in his education.
