Katya was born at 25 weeks’ gestation, weighing just 860 grams. She spent her first month in the neonatal intensive care unit, where the doctors’ prognoses were far from encouraging. When she was one month old, Katya suffered an intraventricular hemorrhage, which subsequently led to hydrocephalus.
Katya is now 7 years old. She cannot walk, roll over, or speak much. Despite this, she loves listening to fairy tales—especially when her mother reads them to her. In September, she began the first grade, and her teacher visits her at home for lessons.
On the recommendation of her doctors, Katya requires regular "verticalization" (being placed in an upright position). This helps strengthen her muscles, improves circulation, and slows the loss of calcium from her bones. Rehabilitation specialists have identified a wheelchair for Katya that also functions as a standing frame. She can use it at home—both as a standard wheelchair for her studies and as a rehabilitation tool—since it is designed to support her in an upright position.
Her family lacks the financial resources to purchase this equipment on their own, so they have reached out to the "Potery Net" ("No Losses") Foundation for help.
We are launching a fundraising campaign and ask for your support for this little girl!
