Dima is back on his feet!

Thanks to your support, 15-year-old Dima Batrakov was able to get an operation to repair his sciatic nerve in no time at all. Now he can walk and is learning to control his foot again. The operation was successful. The surgeons literally glued the damaged portion of the nerve together piece by piece. Thank you for responding and helping to put Dima on his feet! Six months ago a teenage recklessness almost cost Dima his life. Together with friends he decided to take a car ride on country roads. The car skidded on the first turn and flew off into a ravine. Dima suffered more than others: lung contusions, concussion, blood loss, both hips fractured. In Cheboksary, surgeons inserted a plate into the teenager's left leg and a spoke into his right leg. But it turned out that the sciatic nerve was also damaged. Without the sciatic nerve it was impossible to walk or move your toes. Dima's left foot dangled like a rag and did not respond to neither cold nor heat. And the immobile muscles were forgetting more and more every day what it meant to work. A little more and they would have completely atrophied. But we made it! - I am immensely grateful to people who did not remain indifferent and came to help my son, - says mother of Dima Elena. - Without timely reconstruction of the nerve could not return mobility and sensitivity of the foot. It has been a little time since the surgery, but I can already see the results - Dima began to move his leg, and his foot became obedient. In the last days of the school year he walked to school without crutches, leaning on his mother's arm, and went to the graduation exams on his own. Without crutches and without mother. Dima has two more examinations and several rehabilitation courses ahead of him. Full recovery of the sciatic nerve takes time. Doctors estimate it will take about a year.
