Yusuf has finally got his active wheelchair!

Yusuf was born with a congenital spine deformities. He has no parents and lives in the Troitsky Family Support Centre in the countryside of Chelyabinsk in Ural. His mother gave up him, and there is no father's name on his birth certificate. Because of spinal abnormalities Yusuf got problems with his reins, got a hump and sores formed in areas of pressure. The boy is unable to walk, but to crawl.

In November 2021, the charitable Foundation "Doroga zhizni" brought him to Russian Children's Clinical Hospital in Moscow for treatment and rehabilitation. Just in 1.5 months Yusuf put on weight and learned to eat independently. He has lessons with teacher and speech and language therapist. Yusuf is riding on kid's toy car through the social center where he is staying now with the nanny. And he needs urgently his individual active wheelchair.

The active wheelchairs are actively and autonomously moved by the wheelchair user and are always individually adaptable to the needs of the user: the size of the seat, footrests and armrests are adjusted. Active wheelchairs are usually lighter, more agile models that can be moved with less effort. The biggest advantages for Yusuf are that his back muscles won’t atrophy and he will be able to drive this wheelchair himself without the help of his nanny.

This wheelchair will enable Yusuf to be an active part in everyday life: walking with other children, moving around and not feeling powerless. He will be able to move to a new stage of development. And we all can help him with it.
