Valeria needs rehabilitation!
Lera was born under very difficult circumstances. Due to a sudden deterioration in her health, her mother had to have an emergency caesarean section almost 2 months prematurely. For the first 9 months of Lera's life, doctors and parents fought for her life. At 9 months old, Lera was finally discharged home from a hospital. Unfortunately, due to the premature birth the girl suffered brain damage, which requires long and expensive rehabilitation treatment.
Since then, her parents have been fighting relentlessly to keep her on track. When the baby was 2.5 years old, she had her first seizure. Since then doctors have diagnosed her with epilepsy and Lera is now on an anticonvulsive therapy. She has a disability until she is 18, which means that there is still a long way to go to full rehabilitation. But Lera's parents are not giving up.
Lera has already undergone many rehabilitation courses in different clinics and centres. Unfortunately, free rehabilitation, which has been repeatedly used, has not been very effective. And the prices at paid centres are sometimes unaffordable for a family where only a father works. All the social benefits go towards virtually uninterrupted rehabilitation, which is needed in a variety of ways. Much has already been done and the parents are happy about the progress of their girl, but they have to keep going, she needs to keep on developing!
Akademik Rehabilitation Centre in Moscow has agreed to take care of the two stages of rehabilitation treatment. The two stages include comprehensive examination and treatment of the eyes, assessment of the dynamics of visual function, determination of the tactics and extent of further surgical treatment of strabismus and nystagmus, and also pleoptic and neurotrophic eye treatment.
Not long ago together with the Toobers we helped Lera with the first stage of that rehabilitation treatment. After the first stage of treatment her attending physician noticed significant improvement of visual acuity.
Now it is time to continue the treatment. The second stage of treatment is scheduled at the beginning of March. Within two weeks Lera will undergo neurotrophic treatment to improve her eyes feeding, and pleoptic treatment (laser) to remove false spasm and stop myopia progression.
Let's help Lera in her fight for a full life!
