The twins Shukrone and Shodiyona had surgeries!

The twins Shukrona and Shodiyona Suyunboyeva were born on 09.03.2019 two months premature (31st week of development). Each of the babies weighed barely one kilogram at birth. Because of this they spent the first two weeks of their lives on ventilator and then two more months in hospital nursing. When the girls were four months old, the doctors diagnosed them with a dangerous eye disease called retinopathy. If left untreated, it could lead to complete blindness in newborns. Since this disease is not yet treated in Tashkent, where Shukrona and Shodiyona were born, the mother was advised to take her daughters to the St Petersburg Children's Clinical Hospital for surgery in Russia. As CIS citizens, the parents had to pay for the children's treatment. At that time there was a coronavirus pandemic, many organizations closed down, and the head of the family was left without a salary. However, with the help of relatives and kind people, they managed to raise the money and fly to Saint Petersburg, where Shukrona and Shodiyona had their first surgery. Unfortunately, by that moment the disease reached its final stage, and the girls underwent five surgeries each. Now, at three years old, Shukrona wears +14 glasses. Despite her visual difficulties, she tries to draw, see colours and help her mother at home. Her sister's situation is worse: Shodiyona is prescribed +16 glasses. In addition to visual impairment, the girls have mental retardation. Shodiyona, three years old, does not yet have speech: she does not speak or answer questions. On top of this, both sisters have intestinal problems and frequent colds, which require continuous treatment and medication. The twins will need a final operation to complete their vision therapy. Now each girl has to undergo a surgery on one eye. However parents have spent all the money they had, and they need our help. Let's help sisters Shukrona and Shodiyona to get to the operation, which will improve their eyesight and give them the joy of seeing our beautiful world!
