Alima was born prematurely on 21 August 2021, at 32 weeks. In December 2021 Alima was diagnosed with stage 4 retinopathy of prematurity and retinal detachment in both eyes. She could have lost her vision completely. In Kyrgyzstan, where the girl comes from, they do not treat such children yet.
Last December, thanks to your help, her parents brought her to Russia in an emergency and she was operated on at the Voyno-Yavchenko Scientific Practical Centre for Special Medical Aid to Children. Last December, thanks to your help the parents brought her to the Russian Federation. Doctors at the centre did everything possible to prevent a total detachment of the retina and stopped the pathological growth of blood vessels in the eyes, which gives a good chance to restore her eyesight.
Alima needed additional surgical interventions to restore her vision.
Thanks to you again at the end of December last year ophthalmology surgeons at Children Clinical University Hospital in Saint Petersburg performed surgery (vitreosquarectomy) on Alyma. The doctors advised Alima's mother to come to Russia again in March-April 2022 for a surgery on the right eye.
Now Alima needs a second operation on her right eye in the northern capital. The operation is scheduled for 28th March. The doctors admit that if Alyma is not operated she will undergo irreversible changes in the retina very soon.
Together we can save Alima's sight for her bright future!
