The girl was diagnosed with tyrosinemia type 1.

The metabolism of the amino acid tyrosine is disturbed in this disease. This causes damage to the liver, kidneys and peripheral nerves.

Without adequate treatment, tyrosinemia causes liver failure, complicates cirrhosis of the liver, heart failure and leads to abnormal bone formation.

Nuriye has been given a special treatment diet and therapy with the drug Nitisinon to prevent most of the complications associated with the disease.
