Abdul-Malik spent his childhood in hospitals. The boy was hospitalized with severe complications after every cold. Doctors tried different treatment regimens, but none of them had a lasting effect.
Six years ago, Abdul-Malik suffered meningitis. He spent a week in a coma, then a month in intensive care. It was hard and long to recover. And right after discharge he was hospitalized again with bilateral pneumonia and inflammation of the intestines. Abdul-Malik was diagnosed with a congenital immune disease, which impairs the functioning of many body systems. The disease affected the boy's lungs and intestines most severely.
Abdul-Malik is now 14 years old. Because of frequent infections he misses classes at school and rarely goes out of the house. But finally the doctors picked up the therapy! To cope with the complications and return to normal life, the boy needs two expensive drugs, Humira and Cigardis.
