Balkhash Hospital received a phototherapy lamp for treatment of neonatal jaundice!

The Republican project of AYALA Foundation to equip children's intensive care departments in hospitals of Kazakhstan with life-saving equipment started in 2007. In 15 years it has covered 36 cities and settlements and 67 medical institutions. Thanks to the funds raised in Kazakhstan, the lives of tens of thousands of children have been saved and hundreds of Kazakhstani doctors have taken courses to improve their qualifications. The phototherapy lamp helps to cure jaundice of newborns, keeping them healthy and intelligent. Jaundice in newborns is an increase in toxic bilirubin, which causes severe damage to the central nervous system. It manifests as yellowing of the skin and eyeballs in a newborn or in a baby in the first months of life. The phototherapy lamp is a special light of high intensity in the blue-green spectrum of radiation and is completely harmless to the baby's body. The powerful light changes the shape and structure of indirect bilirubin molecules so that it becomes water-soluble and begins to be excreted in the feces and urine. The phototherapy lamp has a lifetime limit of 1000 to 2000 hours. After that it must be replaced. This is why the need for such lamps in maternity hospitals is always very high. The phototherapy machine will be handed over to the central hospital of Balkhash city in Ulytau region.
