Ear mite (or otodectosis) is a common and extremely unpleasant disease. It is caused by a microscopic insect, it is harmless to humans, but dangerous to pets. This parasite lives in the auricles and feeds on their contents.
This disease is easily transmitted from cat to cat, therefore, in conditions of overcrowding of animals in a shelter, an epidemic can easily occur. In addition, babies and teenagers very often end up in the shelter, and the younger the tail, the higher the risk of infection.
Inflammation with an ear mite can move deep into the ear to the eardrum. With damage to the middle and inner ear, hearing loss and problems with coordination can occur. In some cases, infection can enter the brain and develop meningitis.
To keep our four-legged animals safe, we need to treat the ears of already infected animals, as well as healthy ones, to prevent infection.
