Zhasurbek Akbarov is 10 years old, he lives in Kurgantepa, Uzbekistan.
In December 2017, Zhasur's left hand began to hurt, and his parents noticed that the child was avoiding using it. They went to the trauma station in their city, where a fracture was diagnosed and doctors put the arm in plaster.
After removing the plaster, the doctors were alerted to the arm swelling, and Zharus was sent to the local oncological dispensary for a consultation and then to Tashkent.
The Tashkent Cancer Hospital conducted a biopsy and diagnosed Ewing sarcoma. The biopsy material was reviewed at the St. Petersburg Clinical Scientific and Practical Center for Specialized Medical Care (Oncology) and the diagnosis was changed to osteo-sarcoma.
In Uzbekistan, Zhasurbek had one course of chemotherapy, but doctors said his arm would have to be amputated.
Then Zhasur's parents went to Moscow, to the Research Institute of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology. There, the chemotherapy was continued and the operation was performed, saving the hand and putting a sliding endoprosthesis.
Active treatment ended a year ago, but it is extremely important to undergo control examinations and make distractions (sliding) of endoprosthesis, as Zhasur is growing. Three such operations have already been performed: in July and October 2019 and in January 2020.
The next examination and distraction of Zhasur is expected in Moscow in May.
Since Zhasurbek is not a citizen of the Russian Federation, treatment for him is paid.
