Damdin was diagnosed external auditory passage atresia, congenital anomaly of the ears in the maternity hospital. After the birth the boy was examined by surdologist, neurologist, and surgeon. The doctors decided to install a bone conduction hearing aid. Damdin received his first soft bandage device in 2013.
In December 2014 and in April 2015 Damdin was operated in two stages to make bone implantation of Baha hearing aid. A month after the operation was made the connection to the device.
Damdin heard well in his hearing aid. The boy started classes with deaf teachers, speech therapist and almost immediately his speech improved. The child went to an ordinary kindergarten, began to understand speech better, the vocabulary increased.
The hearing aid consists of two parts: internal (implant, which is attached to the skull bones) and external (speech processor).
Problems began 2 years ago when an inflammation started at the place of implantation. The surgeon recommended to replace the implant (which is attached to the skull bone) with a support (attaches to the implant and goes to the skin surface), because the prescribed treatment helped temporarily. As Damdin grew, the subcutaneous layer around the support on which the hearing aid is attached also thickened. As the skin grew, it was almost impossible to attach the hearing aid to the support. The implant needs to be replaced with a higher height support.
It is impossible to get an implant free of charge, because its cost is not covered by the social security fund, even if the child has a disability.
Damdin lives with his mother and grandmother. The boy graduated from the 2nd grade, he likes to learn, and has different diplomas and certificates for participation in various competitions. Damdin likes to collect LEGO, to ride a bike, to draw, he is very self-sustained. Unfortunately, the cost of the implant is too high for the family.
