At 11 months of age, Luka developed weakness in his right leg, and later his posture deteriorated and his spine became curved. For almost a year doctors could not make a correct diagnosis. Massages, physiotherapies did not give any result. Only after MRI the cause of the disease was found - a large neoplasm of the spinal cord, ganglioglioma. Gangliogliomas are rare tumours of the brain and spinal cord, mostly occurring in children and adolescents. This type of tumour accounts for less than 2% of all CNS tumours. At the Burdenko NMIC, experienced neurosurgeons performed a complex operation to remove the tumour. But, unfortunately, complications could not be avoided. Luka cannot walk, he can only crawl on all fours. Now it is important for Luka to take classes in the specialised centre "Galileo", which has a great experience of working with children after brain and spinal cord surgeries. The parents cannot pay for the rehabilitation, which is important for their son. Only his father works, and most of the money is spent on rented accommodation, swimming pool lessons and rehabilitation equipment (corsets and orthoses).
