The Nika Charitable Foundation is engaged in catching stray animals. Dogs are caught using anesthesia: the catcher shoots the dog with a special blowpipe with a “flying” syringe containing a fast-acting sleeping pill. Employees calculate the dose of the drug individually for each animal, depending on the size and general external condition.
The drug is safe for animals, but in case the animal’s body reacts badly to the drug, the catchers are ready to provide first aid: they always have a first aid kit with them and an antidote that breaks down the medicine. The animal wakes up 30-40 minutes after anesthesia.
This method is used in difficult cases when the dog is uncooperative, very scared or showing aggression. More sociable dogs are lured with food - canned food or meat, but this rarely happens.
We are currently raising funds for consumables for catching wild and difficult animals. Subsequently, in the shelter they have a chance to socialize and go home.
