Emerald City is the first and only children's hospice in the Belgorod region. It opened four years ago and has already received more than 400 terminally ill children. If earlier children came under the social respite program with one of their parents on a planned basis, now the hospice accepts all seriously ill children from the districts close to the border by whole families on an emergency basis. The situation in the city is complicated. “We provide medical care and professional care, but we don't have the usual hospital wards, but small houses for children. Some of them have transparent doors out into the yard to walk around without getting out of bed. We do everything to remain a place of rest and a fairy-tale town where you can forget about a serious illness at least for a couple of minutes,” said Eugenia, the founder of the children's hospice. We are raising money for four months of two nannies and we really need your support. The nannies help to take care and look after seriously ill children, play, walk, take them in their arms and hug them. So that the children can have a childhood despite their diagnosis, and the parents can have at least a little time to relax.
