Vanya lives on the 4th floor of a typical five-story building without an elevator. For 12 years, his mother has been carrying down the wheelchair first and then her son from their apartment. Vanya attends school, participates in clubs, and leads an active life despite a challenging diagnosis.
Twelve years ago, in the delivery room, Vanya’s mother first learned about his diagnosis – spina bifida, a congenital spinal defect. This complex condition brought many consequences, including disability, mobility issues, the inability to walk, and much more.
Recently, while carrying Vanya downstairs, his mother slipped, fell, and injured her leg and back. It’s worth mentioning that Vanya now weighs 40 kilograms, and with each passing year, it becomes increasingly difficult to carry him. We decided to help the family so that both Vanya and his mother could more easily get from their apartment to the street! We deeply wish for Vanya to live a fulfilling life and not be confined to his home, like many people with disabilities who cannot go outside due to the lack of proper conditions for wheelchair access.
We aim to purchase a stair-climbing lift that charges at home, attaches to the wheelchair, and allows the wheelchair and person to move directly up or down the stairs. This lift will make life easier for Vanya’s mother, protect her health, and allow Vanya to be more mobile.
Let’s all come together to create a miracle for Vanya’s family so that in the new year, he can gain the freedom of movement he deserves!
