Polina began to stand more firmly on her feet!

Polina is 11 years old. In infancy, she suffered from a severe neurological infection. Polina survived, but the illness left her with complications in the form of serious motor impairments. She has been forced to move in a wheelchair. Then a new tragedy struck — her mother, her closest adult, passed away. At first, Polina was cared for by her grandmother, but due to her age and her own health issues, she was unable to continue. Thus, Polina ended up in an institution for children without parental care. In December 2022, specialists from the "Road of Life" foundation saw Polina in the institution and took her for treatment. The girl underwent surgery on her spinal nerve roots to relieve muscle tension and reduce pain. The surgery is just the beginning, and it will not help if there is no proper rehabilitation afterwards. Polina has already completed several courses, including thanks to your support, dear Toobers, and even took her first independent steps without support! She can walk without support for only a short distance and in orthoses, but this is a huge step forward. Recently, when Polina danced, albeit with crutches, at her favorite singer's concert, our staff couldn't hold back their tears because Polina had spent the previous 10 years in a wheelchair. Polina is awaiting a new rehabilitation course at the "Galileo" medical center, the results of which she will reinforce with specialists from the foundation. Throughout this time, her beloved nanny will be by her side. Polina's success is made up of her own efforts and her nanny's care.
