Milena is 10 years old and has been battling severe diagnoses almost since birth: epilepsy (West syndrome) and cerebral palsy. For a long time, her seizures were kept under control: in 2019, a long-awaited remission occurred, and the girl began to develop, learning to sit and hold toys. But recently, the remission was disrupted—the seizures returned and now happen daily. Doctors at the federal center suggested a genetic origin of the disease and recommended further testing.

The collected funds were used to pay for whole exome sequencing. The analysis has already been completed. Now, specialists will be able to determine the cause of the disease and adjust the treatment to help Milena regain remission and preserve the skills she worked so hard to achieve. This is a chance for proper treatment and a calmer life for the girl and her family.

Milena has epilepsy and cerebral palsy; she needs a genetic analysis to select the appropriate treatment.

At the age of 2.5 months, Milena had her first epileptic seizure. The girl underwent examinations and doctors tried different medications, but none brought improvement. At 7 months, the diagnosis was made: epilepsy—West syndrome and cerebral palsy. Time passed, the girl grew, but she did not develop.

It took a long time to find the right therapy for Milena, and in 2019, long-awaited remission was achieved. The girl began to develop: she started paying attention to toys and cartoons, learned to sit, and to hold toys in her hands. For several years, the family forgot about the seizures.

Now Milena is 10 years old. She is a cheerful girl who loves her mom, dad, and two older sisters. Together, they go for walks and watch cartoons.

Recently, what everyone feared happened—a relapse of the remission. The seizures have returned and now occur every day. Doctors at the federal center recommend that Milena undergo genetic testing—whole exome sequencing. This analysis will help determine the true cause of the illness and select the optimal therapy.

The test is expensive, and the family cannot afford it on their own.
