Rasul underwent a neuro-urological examination

Spina bifida

Foundation Moscow

Rasul and his mother arrived in Moscow early on March 2. And all because on that day an important neuro-urological examination was scheduled for the boy - CUDI - such a complete screening of the urinary system. Rasul has spina bifida, and with this diagnosis the internal pelvic organs do not work properly. This requires constant monitoring and correction. The entire examination lasts two hours and does not require hospitalization. During this time the neurologist Galina Tischenko had carried out all the manipulations which were necessary in order to make it clear what kind of disorders of urinary system he had at the moment and what kind of corrections they required. The doctor also said that Rasul was an adult, so he could place a catheter to drain the urine, which could not come out by itself (if he did not place the catheter, the residual urine would go back to his kidneys, which could lead to kidney failure). And then she taught Rasul how to self-catheterize. This means that now Rasul will be independent of his mom at school, all day long! Also recommendations for further monitoring and appointments were written down. Rasul's mother wrote us: "During the visit to the doctor, it was super nice and, most importantly, clear communication. The doctor explained in plain human language, without any terms. And, as always, the work of the foundation, the organization and the choice of doctors for certain examinations - everything is at the highest level. Words of gratitude are not enough for you. You are great. I wish each of your team all the best." We thank everyone who took part in collecting money to pay for such an important checkup for Rasul!

An important examination for Rasul

Rasul dreams of becoming a military man, just like his father. He is a real star at school, and he is always fun and interesting. Rasul has a lot of friends. Rasul also has spina bifida. It is a severe congenital disease of the spine. Because of it, Rasul cannot walk and has to use a wheelchair. When we see a child with spina bifida the first thing we notice is a problem with movement. But there's another thing that can be very harmful: Children with spina bifida have no bladder control, they just don't feel it's time to go to the bathroom. Meanwhile, the urine flows back into the kidneys, and the children develop urinary tract infections from mild cystitis to severe, with kidney damage - pyelonephritis. And these are problems which are not immediately visible, but which may lead to irreparable consequences: a person can live without legs, but not without kidneys. In outpatient clinics, pediatricians often don't know about the specifics of monitoring children with spina bifida, so they focus on standard examination protocols: blood and urine tests. This is not enough to assess the child's condition. In fact, parents learn about the fact that a child with spina bifida needs to undergo annual CUDI by a neuro-urologist from the staff of the Spina bifida Foundation. CUDI is a comprehensive urodynamic study that allows you to assess how disturbed the phase of urine accumulation is, how disturbed the phase of urine emptying is, whether you need to compensate with medication, whether you need to connect additional methods of urine diversion. This is a complete screening of the urinary system. It is very important for Rasul to have this screening! CUDI is not on the list of mandatory medical examinations. That is why the charity fund "Spina Bifida" is collecting funds to pay for CUDI for Rasul. Let's help the charming boy undergo this important examination!
