Dagestan is entering the final stage of its initial recovery after the devastating spring floods.
More than 68,000 people affected have already received payments totaling 2.4 billion rubles. The remaining applications are due to be reviewed by August 20.
One of the hardest-hit places was the village of Mamedkala. Fifty new homes are now being built there for families who lost their housing completely.
The work is scheduled to be finished by the end of August, so that people can welcome autumn in homes of their own.
The disaster struck the region on March 28. Almost 10,000 homes were flooded and more than seven thousand were damaged. Six people died, and about four thousand residents had to be evacuated.
In the very first days after the disaster, Tooba users rallied around a campaign by the Nadezhda foundation. In a single month, more than 380,000 people and organizations from Russia and other countries raised one billion rubles.
The largest single donation was 58 million rubles. This campaign is a record for charity in Russia.
Recovery continues, but its main strength is already clear: when the state, foundations, volunteers and hundreds of thousands of caring people act together, even after a great tragedy there is a chance to start life anew.
Thank you, dear friends!
